Herbs and Foods to Avoid
Some herbs may cause hair loss as a side effect in some people. The American Herbal Pharmacopoeia or results reported from clinical trial(s) suggests that these include chaste tree, Ginkgo biloba, and evening primrose oil. However, the evidence provided from the actual study data indicates that if these herbs were the cause (and not just associated with) the reported hair loss the incidence rate was less than 2% of individuals tested. 256-258
However, there are indications that certain herbs and foods can exacerbate specific diseases and health conditions related to hair loss.
