Topical Hair Growth Products for Thinning Hair
Topical hair growth products work to promote hair regrowth in several ways, including triggering anagen growth phase in resting hair follicles and stimulating growth factors that improve circulation. Studies show they can help reverse the hair loss caused by androgen hormones in male common balding and female pattern hair loss, as well as diffuse hair loss typically seen in telogen effluvium and simple aging. When used in conjunction with hair transplant surgery, topical application of substances such as minoxidil can significantly improve hair regrowth outcomes.
In addition, new formulations and off-label uses of systemic anti-androgens and other medications are being investigated as topical agents to promote hair growth. Lab research has shown some promising results for many of these.
Synthetic pharmaceutical formulations are not the only topical treatment options for hair loss. Many natural herbs and nutrients (e.g., melatonin and taurine) have demonstrated the ability to counteract or help regulate hormones and help prevent hair loss as well as stimulate hair growth when applied topically, including Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine formulas.
Lab studies suggest the following topical solutions could help with hair loss:
